our commitment: Calb is built with your privacy in mind. we collect only what is necessary to power your calorie tracking and workout experience, and we never sell your personal data to third parties.
1. introduction
Welcome to Calb ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Calb mobile application. By using the app, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
2. information we collect
2.1 health and fitness data
health data (core functionality): Calb may read health and activity data from Apple Health (iOS) or Google Fit (Android) to support calorie burn estimates and workout tracking. This data is used solely to power your in-app experience.
- calories burned and activity data (when permitted)
- we do NOT store raw health data on our servers — data is processed locally on your device
- we do NOT access sensitive health categories such as sleep, heart rate, or medical records
2.2 food and nutrition data
- photos you take using the AI food scan feature (processed locally or via secure API, not retained)
- food log entries including meal type, calorie count, and macro breakdown
- your daily calorie and macro goals
- meal history and logged food items
2.3 workout data
- exercise logs including exercise type, reps, sets, and active minutes
- workout history and streak data
- daily workout goal progress
2.4 app usage data
- app settings and preferences (calorie goals, macro targets, notifications)
- in-app activity (screens visited, features used)
- subscription status and purchase history
2.5 device information
- device type and operating system version
- app version
- crash reports and error logs (to improve stability)
- we do NOT collect your name, email, or personal identifiers unless you contact us for support
2.6 information you provide
- your name (if you choose to set it in the app)
- custom calorie and macro goals
- notification preferences
- any information you share when contacting our support team
3. how we use your information
we use the data we collect to:
- power the AI food scanning and calorie counting features
- calculate daily calorie intake, macro breakdown, and net calories
- track workout sessions, reps, sets, and active minutes
- display nutrition and workout analytics (weekly and monthly)
- generate streaks, achievements, and goal progress
- sync your data across devices (pro subscribers)
- send goal reminders and notifications (if enabled)
- improve app performance, stability, and user experience
- process and manage your subscription
- respond to support requests
- comply with legal obligations
4. AI food scanning
how it works: when you scan food using the camera, the image is processed to identify food items and estimate portions. images are not permanently stored or associated with your profile. the AI analysis is performed to provide you with nutritional estimates only.
- food scan images are used solely for the purpose of identifying food and estimating nutritional content
- we do not use food scan images to train AI models without your explicit consent
- nutritional estimates are approximations and may not be 100% accurate
5. data sharing and disclosure
we do not sell your data. we do not share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or third parties for their own marketing purposes.
we may share limited data with trusted third parties only in these circumstances:
- service providers: third-party services that help us operate the app (e.g., cloud storage for sync, crash analytics, AI food recognition API). these providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
- payment processors: subscription payments are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play Store. we do not receive or store your payment card information.
- legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
- business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity.
6. apple health and google fit permissions
Calb may request permission to read health and activity data from your device's health platform. specifically:
- iOS (Apple Health): we may request read-only access to calorie and activity data to supplement workout tracking. we do not write to Apple Health without your explicit consent.
- Android (Google Fit / Health Connect): we may request read access to activity data only.
- you can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings without affecting core app functionality.
- health data is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers in raw form.
7. data retention
- local food and workout data is stored on your device and retained until you delete the app
- cloud-synced data (pro subscribers) is retained for the duration of your active subscription plus 90 days
- after account inactivity exceeding 12 months, cloud data may be deleted
- crash logs and analytics data are retained for up to 12 months
- support communications are retained for up to 2 years
8. data security
we implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
- encryption of data in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
- encryption of data at rest for cloud-synced content
- limited access to user data within our team
- regular security reviews
no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. while we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. your rights and choices
9.1 health data permissions
you can revoke Calb's access to your health data at any time through your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Health; Android: Settings → Apps → Permissions).
9.2 notifications
you can enable or disable calorie goal reminders and workout notifications in the app settings or your device notification settings.
9.3 data deletion
to delete your app data, uninstall the app from your device. for cloud data deletion requests, contact us at mallik.puranjan@gmail.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
9.4 access and portability
you may request a copy of the data we hold about you by contacting our support team.
10. children's privacy
Calb is suitable for all ages. we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. if you believe your child has provided us with personal information without consent, please contact us and we will take prompt action to delete it.
11. third-party services
Calb may use the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Apple App Store / Google Play Store: for subscription billing and app distribution
- Apple Health / Google Fit: for reading activity data
- AI food recognition service: for processing food scan images (anonymized)
- crash analytics provider: for app stability monitoring (anonymized data only)
12. international data transfers
Calb is operated from the United States. if you use the app from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US. by using the app, you consent to this transfer.
13. changes to this privacy policy
we may update this privacy policy from time to time. when we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. for material changes, we may notify you through the app. continued use of Calb after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
